Biography

Lt. Gen. (Ret) S. Clinton Hinote, PhD (“Clint” or “Q”) is a keynote speaker, organizational strategist, and advisor to high-stakes leaders. Drawing on experiences as a fighter pilot, Weapons School instructor, front-line commander, and the Air Force’s “Futurist,” Dr. Hinote has distilled decades of leadership development into his Forging Method, which he applies to help organizations build the next generation of leaders capable of operating in the crucible of complexity.

Over a 35-year Air Force career, Clint served in high-pressure leadership roles—from the fighter cockpit to the highest levels of strategy and decision-making. As an instructor pilot and senior leader, he developed judgment under extreme pressure, amassing over 2,000 flight hours—including 240 combat hours—in the F-16 and F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter.

As the Air Force’s “Futurist” (Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategy, Integration, and Requirements), Dr. Hinote led a 400-person team designing the multi-billion-dollar foundation for the future force, advancing innovation and global policy for U.S. national security. His leadership extended to commanding in NATO and Korea, and serving as acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, where he built coalitions and navigated complexity at the highest levels. As a consultant and advisor, he now works with Fortune 500 companies, government executives, and innovative startups to help them develop leaders who can thrive where the map runs out.

Academically, Dr. Hinote graduated first in his class at both the U.S. Air Force Academy and Air Command and Staff College, holds a PhD in Military Strategy, a Master’s from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and is a former Military Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. His insights have been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, CBS News, the BBC, CNN, and The Washington Post.

Today, Dr. Hinote is Professor of the Practice at the RAND School of Public Policy and a trusted coach for leaders operating in high-stakes environments.
